New design in the works…but I’m twittering

27 Mar

Not really twittering, but using Twitter.com. Look at the blue box on the right (that’s where it is today, anyway.) I’ll update this site via my phone…it’s what I have time to do anyway. Go to http://twitter.com/lunaticmapmaker for previous ‘posts’.

Quick Update

31 Jul

I’ve made some quick updates to our site. The old photo gallery has been replaced by our Flickr account. See the link. Also, my infrequent blog has been renamed DADDOO! instead of Daddy Diaperhead. Check it out.

You’d look like this if you could eat Annagrace’s spaghetti:

EUGENE SYMPHONY TO CONTINUE CONCERT ACTIVITIES THIS WEEK

______________________________________

EUGENE— To honor orchestra members Kjersten Oquist and Angela Svendsen, who died tragically this week, the Eugene Symphony will perform its regularly scheduled concert with Sir James and Lady Jeanne Galway this Thursday, February 15, 2007, 8 p.m.

“Going forward with Thursday’s performance is the right thing to do,” said board president Mary Ann Hanson. “Music will speak to us through our grief and provide the solace we all need at this time.”

All auxiliary activities, including a free concert preview at noon at the Hult Center tomorrow and a free master class with Sir James Galway at Beall Hall on Wednesday at 4 p.m. will continue as planned.

The evening’s concert program will be altered to include Variation No. 9 from Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations in honor of Kjersten and Angela. Additional information about memorial services and memorial funds will be forthcoming.

Orchestra committee chair and member of the first violin section, Lisa Bieber said, “The most healing thing we can do at this time is to make music together.”
Interviews available upon request.

Two friends killed and one injured by a drunk driver

13 Feb

Two friends, musicians with the Eugene Symphony, OBT Orchestra, Portland Opera Orchestra, and many freelance gigs were killed in a car wreck two nights ago. A third was badly injured. The drunk driver lives, of course! Note: I want to concentrate on the lives of my friends for now….I will post some thoughts about drunk driving soon.

Angela and Kjersten were doing what they loved, playing music professionally. It’s more than just a job. It’s a calling. Those with the fire in their hearts to play won’t let the lack of steady employment keep them from their dreams. Instead, as Angela and Kjersten did, they find work wherever they can find it. They practice, prepare for auditions, and take auditions in the hope of getting a full time, living wage position. These positions are few and far in between.

They were good people. Friends, spouses, and a mother, in Kjersten’s case. David Stabler of the Oregonian and Niel Deponte have written some nice things about Angela, Kjersten, and Kelly:

Portland Musicians will be Missed

A tribute to Kjersten Oquist and Angela Svendsen

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Angela and Kjersten’s families and to Kelly and her family.
